President BUHARI has also conveyed his decision to the federal lawmaker in a letter addressed to the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
According to a copy of the letter read by the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI, on resumption of plenary TODAY, President BUHARI also gave reasons to support his decision to withhold assent to the Electoral Act Amendment
President BUHARI also disagreed with the Federal lawmakers on the amendment of Section 138 of the principal act to delete two grounds upon which an election may be challenged by candidates.
The President equally frowned at the amendment of Section 152; subsection 325 of the Electoral Act that has to do with local government elections, stressing that it raise constitutional questions about the competence of the National Assembly to legislate on local government elections.
You will recall that concerns had trailed the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National Assembly altering the 2015 election time-table as earlier announced by INEC.
Some observers, including members of the National Assembly, had observed that the move was part of a secret plot targeted at President MUHAMMADU BUHARI, if he intends to seek re-election.
