Our correspondent understands that the Executive Arm of the Federal Government is working within the constitutional time-frame required to process details of the budget.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator ITA ENANG, said the goal is to ensure that figures appropriated to ministries, departments and agencies are consistent with the realities on ground.
Senator ENANG noted in a statement that should there be any area needing input, the Presidency would engage the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly.
At the end of the ongoing review and consultations, the Presidential aide said the President may decide to assent or withhold assent on the budget, as it may deem necessary.
He recalled that when the budget was presented to the National Assembly in December last year, the lawmakers subjected the proposals to legislative processes using internal systems at their disposal.
Senator ITA ENANG said the Presidency is also doing a similar review of the appropriation using its own internal systems, adding that failure to do so could expose the government to a backlash from Nigerians.
