With the rainy season in full swing, business owners and traders in Port Harcourt are expressing deep concern over dwindling patronage and mounting losses.
Many traders say the persistent rainfall has severely impacted sales, with customers staying away from markets due to poor weather conditions. Several shop owners reported that they have not recorded any meaningful business in recent days.
Beyond the rain, some traders blame the harsh economic climate and the scarcity of cash in circulation for compounding their woes.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government is calling on residents to take proactive steps as the rains continue. HECTOR IGBIKIOWUBO, Senior Special Adviser to the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer grounds, urging everyone to clear drainages and avoid disposing of waste in waterways.
The government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring environmental protection during the rainy season.
