Police Warn Protesters to Obey Court Order Restricting Demonstrations in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has warned all protest groups in Abuja to comply with a court order restricting demonstrations in designated high-security areas of the Federal Capital Territory.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, said the police remain committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public peace in line with constitutional provisions.

He emphasized that the court order remains binding and enforceable pending further judicial proceedings, and urged all groups planning demonstrations to adhere strictly to it.

The warning comes ahead of a planned protest scheduled for today, October 20, calling for the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in custody since his extradition from Kenya in 2021 and is currently facing terrorism-related charges.
