The Force spokesman, JIMOH MOSHOOD, made the denial in reaction to another online media report which quoted a High Court Judge in Delta State.
MOSHOOD said the call was made by the Judge without recourse to section 106 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of 2015, which clearly excludes non lawyers from processing offences in any Court of Law.
He noted that the Nigeria Police Force as an organization has the highest number of lawyers in its establishment, who are undertaking prosecution as provided in the ACT.
The Force spokesman said it was a legal misconception for anybody to call for the stripping off of the Police power to prosecute criminal cases.
