In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, NNAMDI OMONI noted that the armed robbers numbering about six people on citing the police patrol team from Miniokoro Police Station opened fire on them which led to the death of a sergeant with others sustaining injuries from bullets.
According to the statement OMONI said preliminary investigation revealed that the armed robbers were to attack a New Generation Bank but were repelled by the gallant efforts of the officers.
The police spokesman said the suspected robbers could not gain access into the Bank.
DSP OMONI said Command’s Tactical Units have commenced investigation into the matter with a view to arresting the hoodlums just as he disclosed that Normalcy has since been restored in the area.
The Command appealed to the public to assist the Police with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the hoodlums adding that the information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
