Some officers said the actual order that was given by the Inspector General of Police through the state commissioner of police was for shanties occupied by civilians within the barracks to be destroyed and not houses built by officers still serving in the force.
The officers lamented that some of their houses were built from bank loans adding that over one thousand family will be displaced if their houses are demolished.
When contacted, the police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers state police command, DSP Grace Koko noted that the order said all shanties in the barracks should be demolished, adding that those raising alarm have no Certificate of Occupancy to show.
