Police exhume corpses of 3 kidnapped Uniport students, arrest kidnappers

Police personnel attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police command arrested a member of the kidnap gang who took them to the forest where the students were killed and buried in a shallow grave.

 

The suspect who identified himself as Friday Akpan who spoke to newsmen in the forest said they abducted the victims identified as Joy Adoki, Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obimba on the order of one Bright.

 

Akpan explained that they killed and buried the three victims after raping the female amongst them claiming that the said BRIGHT told them that one of the victims betrayed him by diverting a certain amount of money that was paid into his account.

 

Briefing newsmen at the scene; the spokesman of Rivers State Police command, Nnamdi Omoni disclosed that the men of Anti-Kidnap unit led by its commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Collins Edward Shadar swung into action after a case of kidnap of the three undergraduates was reported to the unit.

 

Our correspondent Uchendu Ejiowhor reports that one AK 47 riffle, one pistol, three magazines, seventy-two rounds of live ammunition were among the weapons recovered from the suspects while the corpse of the victims which were exhumed by the police are to be deposited at the mortuary to make way for further investigation.
