The Command in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the officers were ambushed by unidentified hoodlums operating in a Sienna bus, with fully tinted glasses.
SP Iringe-Koko said the assailants, drove in from the Rumuodumaya axis, opened fire on the police team, resulting in the tragic loss of an Inspector, while the others responded by engaging the attackers and were able to neutralize one of them, as the others escaped with gunshot wounds.
According to the statement, the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the despicable act and has identified the group responsible, with assurance that the police will relentlessly pursue the criminals and bring them to justice.
The Police Spokesperson said no amount of intimidation will hinder the officers’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, while also emphasizing that such acts of aggression against security forces detrimentally, impact the safety and security of the entire society.
The Statement further quoted the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu maintaining that the Rivers State Police Command remains resolute in its duty to maintain peace and protect the well-being of the populace, adding that those who perpetrate violence against policemen or any citizen will face the full weight of the law.
The police however, extended its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen inspector, and assured that his sacrifice will not be in vain.
