The Police Public Relations Officer, NNAMDI OMONI, said the twenty-three-year-old suspect was arrested after a shootout between the police and members of the robbery gang.
OMONI who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said a team of policemen stormed the hideout of the criminals as they were sharing the loot of their operation, which led to an exchange of gunfire.
DSP OMONI said the suspect in detention is helping the detectives at the Isiokpo Police Station with useful information on how to track down other culprits.
Items recovered from hideout of the criminals include a locally made short gun, cartridges, machetes, as well as two female handbags and six different mobile phones.
The spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, NNAMDI OMONI, has also confirmed an attack on worshippers at a church around Onne in Eleme Local Government Area by hoodlums suspected to have operated from the Trailer Park along Onne Road.
DSP OMONI said security has been reinforced around the area to restore normalcy after the incident over the weekend, which he said was due to misunderstanding involving some men from the northern parts of the country.
The police spokesman told our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR that some suspects have been arrested over the attack, as investigation intensifies.
He advised residents of the area to go about their normal businesses with the assurance that the police was committed to ensuring their security and safety of life and property of every citizen in the state.
