PMB ARRIVES NEW YORK for UN General assembly

This was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, more than eighteen hours after President BUHARI and his entourage departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

President BUHARI is accompanied by Governor of Zamfara State, ABDULAZIZ YARI, Ebonyi State Governor, DAVID UMAHI and Ondo State Governor ROTIMI AKEREDOLU.

In an earlier statement; FEMI ADESINA said the high point of the President’s visit would be his participation in the General Debate on the theme “Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.”

President BUHARI’s other engagements include participation at the welcoming reception and a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary General, ANTONIO GUTERRES.

BUHARI is equally scheduled for a lunch meeting with President DONALD TRUMP of the United States of America, along with other world leaders.

The statement also confirms Nigeria’s participation in high level meetings on ‘Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, as well as an event organized by the African Union to review the ‘Roadmap on Demographic Dividend.

It noted that President BUHARI and members of his delegation would strive to project Nigeria as a strong moral force and responsible member of the international community.

They would also seek to affirm Nigeria’s commitment to global peace, security and development, while at the same time advocating the need for increased international cooperation in the fight against corruption.

Other priorities for the Nigerian delegation at the UN General Assembly include strengthening human rights institutions; the rule of law; support for Internally Displaced Persons as a result of terrorist acts and recent flooding, and mitigating the effects of Climate Change.

At the end of the General Assembly, President BUHARI would transit through London on his way back to the country.
