Physically Challenged Scholar Urges Government to Improve Support for Persons with Disabilities

Dr. Baridado Ngo, a proud member of the physically challenged community, has called on the Nigerian government to provide adequate learning equipment and support systems to enhance educational opportunities for persons living with disabilities.

Dr. Ngo made this appeal during a celebration marking his successful completion of a PhD in Fine and Applied Arts, specializing in Graphic Design, at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

In an interview with our reporter, Emelda Ifeme, he recounted his academic journey as both challenging and painful, citing the absence of a conducive learning environment and Nigeria’s tough economic conditions as significant obstacles he faced along the way.

Despite the many challenges, I am proud to have achieved this milestone. I urge the government to do more in providing accessible learning environments and support systems for persons with disabilities.

Looking to the future, Dr. Ngo urged other physically challenged individuals to rise above societal and physical barriers, emphasizing resilience and determination.

He also appealed to educational institutions to recognize and incorporate the specific needs of persons with disabilities into their curriculum planning and infrastructure development, aiming to foster a more inclusive and supportive academic environment for all.
