This follows the litigation against the minister by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector to the National Industrial Court for registering the Contributory Pensioners Union of Nigeria, which it described as a parallel union.
NUPCPS said it was unlawful and unconstitutional to register a new association when one with similar mandate still existed, praying the court to stop CPUN’s registration immediately.
The minister announced the creation of CPUN at the tail end of his first term in office.
But speaking at the 18th edition of the pensioners’ day celebration in Abuja, President of the NUP, ABEL AFOLAYAN said that the minister’s approval of two trade unions alongside NUP was the most disturbing pain the union had suffered in the last one year.
He added that those who wanted to pull down the union after falling out of power wrote unsubstantiated petitions against the union as a way of fighting back.
