On one hand; a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt and presided over by Justice IBRAHIM WATILA ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to monitor the PDP convention in Port Harcourt, while the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Service are to provide security for the event.
Rivers State Governor, NYESOM WIKE, who is the Chairman of the PDP National Convention Planning Committee, gave this indication in a statement released by the Press Unit of the Government House.
According to the statement; Justice IBRAHIM WATILA issued the orders based on a suit filed by the Secretary of the PDP National Convention Planning Committee, Senator BEN OBI.
The Government House statement said Senator OBI filed the matter for himself and on behalf of other members of the PDP National convention Planning Committee.
It noted that the Inspector-General of Police, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, the Department of State Services and the Independent National Electoral Commission were joined as respondents.
Justice WATILA is reported to have declared that the July 4th judgment of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt recognised the PDP National Convention on 21st May, which produced the National Caretaker Committee.
However; the factional leadership of the PDP under Senator ALI MODU SHERIFF is also reported to have obtained another order from a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, stopping the PDP Convention in Port Harcourt.
