Paraguay produced one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by eliminating four-time champions Germany on penalties after a 1-1 draw in their Round of 32 encounter.
Julio Enciso gave Paraguay the lead before Kai Havertz equalised for Germany in the second half. With neither side able to find a winner after extra time, Paraguay triumphed 4-3 in the penalty shootout to secure a place in the Round of 16.
Paraguay will now face either France or Sweden in the next round.
