Professor OSINBAJO said he was expressed surprise at media reports credited to Afenifere chieftain, Chief AYO ADEBANJO, purporting that he had made such comment.
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, LAOLU AKANDE, the Acting President said at no time did he say that those asking for restructuring were looking for appointments.
The statement referred anyone in doubt to the video and audio tapes, as well as the full text of his speech at the National Security Summit organised last week by the Department of State Services.
The spokesman for the Acting President noted that while several newspapers and media outlets reported Professor OSINBAJO’s speech last Wednesday, not one of the publications made the inaccurate claim that he described those asking for restructuring as political jobbers.
He maintained that the debate on restructuring is an important one, and that the calls for restructuring cover a wide range of legitimate and constitutionally valid issues, which Nigerians have both a right and a duty to advance.
LAOLU AKANDE said the Acting President himself has expressed support for state police based on the community policing model, advocated for devolution of powers to the states, as well as fiscal federalism.
