Oil bearing communities decry surge in oil bunkering activities

This time, residents of Ukwa West Local Government Area in Abia State and Odagwa-Etche local government in Rivers State, have expressed their discontentment and doubt over the capabilities of pipeline surveillance company, Martinsewed International Nigeria Limited.

The king of Isietitioha Owaza in Ukwa West LGA Abia state, Eze Christian Ikemefula, criticized the company, labeling it as incompetent, and alleged that it lacks capacity to handle the contract it was assigned.

He also attributed the rise in illegal oil bunkering activities to the presence of the surveillance company.

Also speaking a representative of Isimini autonomous community in Ukwa West LGA, Godson Enwereuzor, in an interview with Today FM’s OLAWALE SANUSI, lamented the financial losses incurred by the community due to Martinsewed’s alleged misconduct, as he urged the Federal Government to intervene and consider reverting the surveillance contract to the previous holder.

Similarly, Ordu James, the community trust chairman of Odagwa in Etche LGA, Rivers State, called for the termination of Martinsewed’s contract, alleging that the surveillance company has derailed from its mandate.
