The President, Ogoni Liberation Initiative, Douglas Fabeke who in an event to mark the remembrance of the killing of those they described as Ogoni nine including famous Environmental Activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa said the people still suffer lack of potable water and access to good health care.
Fabeke said despite Supreme court’s judgment for the Ogonis to be compensated, they are yet to receive any compensation from those involved, alleging that there has been no implementation of the recommendation of UNEP report on the clean-up of Ogoni land.
The leader of the Ogoni Liberation Initiative claimed that the Shell Petroleum Development Company failed to recognize the rule and important of host community, just as he insisted on the transfer of HYPREP office to Ogoni land and establishment of water treatment plant across Ogoni communities as well as good welfare package for the people.
On his part, Victor Giadom who is a stakeholder in the area in a statement said the Supreme sacrifice paid by Ken Saro-Wiwais loud enough to provide voice and leadership for Ogoni people and not Governor Nyesom Wike who is reported to have been chosen by some individuals to lead delegation to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on plan resumption of oil exploration in OML 11.
He warned Ogonis not to use the opportunity to create further crisis in the land.
Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor reports that the Ogoni Liberation Initiative led by Douglas Fabeke, led his team to initiate a peace and reconciliation process between Bomu and Lewu community in Gokana Local Government Area of the state.
