Ogoniland Landlords Vow to Resist Oil Production Over Unsettled Demands

Landlords of oil and gas facilities in Gokana, Eleme, Tai, and Khana in Ogoniland have vowed to resist the resumption of oil production in their communities until their demands are fully addressed.

The President of the group, Ben Harry, made the disclosure following a meeting with the Ogoni Dialogue Committee. He insisted that all backlogs of royalties owed to them since the start of oil production in Ogoniland in the late 1950s must be fully settled before any company is allowed to resume exploration on their lands.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the group, Kenneth Toate, stated that they have resolved to stage a protest against the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) for failing to involve them in the clean-up of oil-impacted sites across the region.

The group emphasized that their actions are aimed at securing long-overdue compensation and ensuring that local communities are meaningfully included in decisions affecting their environment and livelihoods.
