The Gokana, Tai, Eleme, and Khana United Landlords Association of Oil Facilities in Ogoniland has suspended its planned protest against the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).
The decision, announced in a statement signed by the association’s President, Ben Harry, cited security concerns following reports that hoodlums intended to hijack the protest and cause unrest.
The association warned that it would resume protest actions if HYPREP fails to meet its demands within one week, particularly regarding the inclusion and recognition of landlords as key stakeholders in the Ogoni clean-up exercise.
Members were urged to remain calm and law-abiding, with the assurance that ongoing engagement with HYPREP continues.
