Ogoni Specialist Hospital May Operate as Federal Medical Centre — Committee

The Technical Planning Committee of the Ogoni Specialist Hospital has recommended that the facility be operated as the equivalent of a Federal Medical Centre, with all corresponding rights and privileges.

The Chairperson of the committee, Dr. Christie Mato, made this known while presenting the committee’s report to the management of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

Dr. Mato explained that the hospital could either function fully as a federal government health institution or operate under a hybrid model, depending on policy decisions and administrative arrangements.

Reacting to the report, the Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, expressed confidence in the work done by the committee, describing the recommendations as comprehensive and well thought out. He said the report would be forwarded to the HYPREP Governing Council for further consideration.

In his remarks, a former President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Legborsin Pyagbara, described the report as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Ogoniland, noting that its implementation would significantly improve access to quality medical services in the area.
