Officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources have visited petrol depots around Rumuolemeni in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State over complaints of selling products above regulated prices.
The officials were led by the Port Harcourt Zonal Operation Controller of the DPR, ONYEBUCHI CHIBUNDU, who pledged the commitment of the agency to ensure compliance by depot owners.
CHIBUNDU warned that defaulters would be made to pay a fine of two million naira, as well as advised marketers to stop buying above government approved prices.
Meanwhile; the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has cautioned the Department of Petroleum Resources over ongoing clampdown on filling stations in Port Harcourt and its environs.
Chairman of the Rivers State Unit of IPMAN, SUNNY NKPE in an interview with correspondent Victor Ezeama, said in as much as the DPR means well for consumers, the Department should consider the marketers who still purchase petroleum products at inflated prices.
The IPMAN Chairman warned that the action of DPR in sealing up petrol filling stations could lead to fuel scarcity.
Our correspondent reports that the Department of Petroleum Resources has so far sealed more than thirty filling stations in Rivers State for allegedly selling fuel above the official pump price of eighty-seven naira per litre.
