State Chairman of NUT, LUCKY NKPOGONE said no local government chapter of the union has the right to issue strike warning to the state government.
NKPONGENE, who made the clarification in an interview with our correspondent LEVI ISU, said the Port Harcourt chapter did not get any directive to speak for the NUT.
The NUT Chairman said the union directed leaders of the various local government chapters to inform their members of the resolution of the State Executive Council and not to make public statement for the union.
LUCKY NKPOGONE called on the Port Harcourt chapter of NUT to retract the radio announcement, just as he called on teachers to have confidence in the state leadership of the NUT.
The NUT Chairman also appealed to the Rivers State Government to comply with the promise to pay all outstanding salaries owed teachers this week in the interest of good working relationship.
He said the union was giving the government until the first week of November to complete payment of teachers salaries.
