Reports say KIM HAK-SONG, who works at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, was arrested on Saturday.
The detention of HAK-SONG is in addition to three other US citizens that are currently held in North Korea, including KIM SANG-DUCK, who also taught at the Pyongyang University.
An official of the US State Department has confirmed that Washington was aware of reports of the detention of a US citizen in North Korea.
The official said the State Department would liaise with the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang, which helps look after US interests in North Korea.
