No Need For Food Importation, Nigeria Can Feed Itself – FG

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who made the disclosure shortly after a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the state governors, said the government had ordered a clampdown on food hoarders.

According to the Minister, security agencies would collaborate with state governments to arrest the hoarders and make food commodities available to Nigerians at the appropriate price.

The minister said numerous interventions taken by the president to ensure food security would soon start to yield fruits.

Idris said the president had declared a state of emergency on agriculture many months ago and that the federal and state governments have made massive investments in crop production and livestock development and management.

Idris also said the Federal Government and state governors are considering the creation of state police, following the security challenges experienced in the country.

There have been clamour for state police as Nigeria grapples with worsening security challenges such as kidnapping and banditry.

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had on Monday, restated their position on state policing, as the solution to the country’s worsening security situation, lamenting that Nigeria is almost on the road to Venezuela.
