Governor WIKE promised that the state government would join forces with other South-South governors to stop the amendment of the act establishing the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas company.
The State Governor maintained that agitations in the South-South have continued to resonate because the authorities had ignored the Geopolitical zone, despite that it produces the wealth that sustains the nation.
The Rivers State Governor was speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt when he received the NLNG Management Team on a courtesy visit.
In a statement from the Government House, Governor WIKE urged the Federal Government not to allow the amendment of the NLNG Act because of what he described as negative multiplier effect it would have on the economy.
WIKE however commended the NLNG Management for offering to partner with the Federal Government on the construction of the Bodo-Bonny Bridge, which he described as all-important.
The Managing Director of NLNG, TONY ATTAH, was quoted in the state appealing to the Rivers State Government and other stakeholders to stop the amendment of the NLNG Act.
ATTAH disclosed that the NLNG was building additional two trains to bring its production capacity to thirty million tonnes, which would make it the thirf biggest in the world.
He said the completion of trains seven and eight in Rivers State would create more than eighteen thousand jobs in the state, with up to twenty million US dollars investments.
But the NLNG Managing Director said amendment of the Act would erode international confidence in the company, which would affect the economy negatively.
