The decision by the National Judicial Council was announced in a statement released by the Acting Director of Information, SOJI OYE.
All seven judges, including two Supreme Court Justice, are barred from handling cases pending the conclusion of the matter against them.
The decision to suspend them was reached at the 79th meeting of the NJC, which signifies a reversal of the initial stance of the council not to suspend the accused judges.
You will recall that the affected judges were arrested during a sting operation by the Department of State Security Service, which led to raids in the homes of the judges in parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the NJC has set up a Transparency and Anti-Corruption Policy Implementation Committee, which is intended to come up with strategies and guidelines to promote transparency and eliminate corruption in the Judiciary.
