NIMASA embrace meeting between Federal Government and Niger Delta leaders.

NIMASA has also assured of its readiness to join forces with other relevant institutions to ensure the success of the engagement with the Niger Delta region.

The Director General of NIMASA, DAKUKU PETERSIDE gave the assurance against the backdrop of the recent meeting between President MUHAMMADU BUHARI and representatives of Niger Delta interest groups.

PETERSIDE said the agency would do what is best for the engagements, especially as it relates to maritime administration.

The D.G said NIMASA has already been working in partnership with the Nigerian military in securing the waterways.

He said the partnership has helped to reduce piracy in the Niger Delta and given a new lease of life to maritime business.

PETERSIDE also hinted that the Federal Government was working on new maritime security architecture for the country.

He said NIMASA is being restructured in such a manner that more powers would be devolved to the zonal offices.

The NIMASA Boss said the Eastern and Central Zones, of which the Niger Delta is an integral part, would be given facelift to make them more responsive to the demands of the time.
