Nigeria’s Senate President, Doctor BUKOLA SARAKI says his face-off with the Code of Conduct Bureau is because of the position he occupies in the National Assembly. Senator SAKARI gave this indication yesterday when he appeared before the Code of Conduct Tribunal to plead not guilty to a thirteen-count charge of corruption and false declaration of assets. Senator SARAKI told the tribunal, which was packed full with lawyers, federal legislators and journalists, that he would not have been put on trial if he was not the Senate President. Senator SARAKI who was speaking from the accused box, pleaded not guilty to all thirteen charges against him. Senator SARAKI was later granted bail on self recognition, while his trial was adjourned to 21st of October for continuation. Speaking outside the coortroom; the prosecution counsel, ROTIMI JACOB said they were ready for trial and have put their witnesses on standby. On his part; the defence counsel, JOSEPH DAUDU said his client needed time to review the charges leveled against him. JOSEPH DAUDU is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and defence counsel in the trial of Senate President BUKOLA SARAKI by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
