The NUT also wants the state government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike to resolve the issues of non payment of annual increase, non payment of impress, infrastructural decay in some public school and recruitment of teachers among others challenges facing the teachers.
The State Chairman of the Union, Lucky Nkpogone in his address at the ongoing Quadrennial Delegate Conference held in Port Harcourt said no nation can grow or develop without the teachers.
Nkpogone however pleaded with the Governor to assist the union to complete the structure of their secretariat and as well meet up other issues concerning the welfare of teachers.
In her goodwill message, the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Beatrice Itubo charged teachers and other labour unions to be politically conscious in other to have a better treatment from government especially from the current administration which she accused of treating workers with levity.
Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor reports that at the end of the conference, the Rivers state branch of Nigeria Union of Teachers is expected to conduct delegate election for new executives that will pilot the affairs of the Union for the next four years.
