Nigerian Prison debunk reports of Mobile phones recovery from owerri prisons.

The Prisons authorities said the report is not true, as no such incident ever took place at the Owerri Prisons.

The National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Prisons Service, FRANCIS ENOBORE, confirmed that the Controller-General of Prisons, JA’AFARU AHMED and three other senior officers visited the Owerri Prisons last Sunday.

ENOBORE said the visit of the most senior officers came in the wake of the attack on Prisoners and staff at the Owerri High Court, during which a notorious kidnapper that was facing trial was rescued.

He said the Controller of Prisons was accompanied by the heads of other security agencies in Imo State, including the Police Commissioner, NSCDC Commandant, Comptroller of Immigration, Director SSS, Controller of Prisons and the Prisons Zonal Coordinator.

According to a statement obtained by our correspondent; the Prisons spokesman said at no time during the visit was any raid carried out or mobile phones recovered at the prisons.

The statement also noted that the Controller General of Prisons visited the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri where he promised to improve the welfare package and medical facilities in the service.

The Prisons boss also commended other security agencies for the timely response during the attack at the High Court premises, as well as the Imo State Governor, ROCHAS OKOROCHA for his offer of financial reward for information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing criminals.
