Nigerian Government Inaugurates Task Team On Ports Decongestion

The Director of maritime services, Babtunde Sule, who represented the chairman of the committee, Magdalene Ajanu called for collaboration between terminal operators, shipping companies and the federal government.

He noted that space issues in ports are affecting the effectiveness of reforms by the federal.

The minister who made this known during a sensitization meeting with stakeholders in the sector, stressed that overtime-cargoes are causing huge traffic at terminals, noting that the terminals are supposed to be used as transit point and not dump sites.

Also speaking, the managing director of Nigerian Port authority, Bello Koko who was represented by Onne Ports Manager, Stanley Yinmo, stated that the ports are burdened with uncleared cargoes.

Todayfm’s Sandra Kenneth reports that the presidential joint task team toured Easter Ports in Rivers state.

Meanwhile terminal operators in Onne sea port have called on the ministry of works to come up with a lasting solution to the deplorable state of the Onne axis of the east west road in Eleme local government area of Rivers State.

The managing director of Onne multipurpose terminal, Jacob Gulmann who made the call in an interview with Todayfm’s Sandra Kenneth, said the bad road is affecting their activities.

Jacob, who lamented that they have been experiencing poor movement of goods, said the development is affecting economic activities in the area.

He further called on federal government, the joint task team to also ensure that the road is passable.
