The JNDLF alleged that some officers of the Nigerian Army had approached it for support to overthrow the government.
But the Nigerian Army described the claim as a campaign of calumny and distraction by faceless criminal gang of economic saboteurs that hide under the aegis of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force.
A statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel SANI USMAN described the claim as baseless and most unfortunate, stressing that the allegation only exist in the warped minds of the originators.
The Nigerian Army used the occasion to send a strong warning to those speculating a coup against the Government to desist forthwith.
The statement further said the Nigerian Army was investigating those behind the insinuation in order to unravel the real motive behind it.
