Nigeria woos foreign navies to secure Gulf of Guinea

Today FM’s Olawale Sanusi reports that the two day maritime exercise code named, Edi-Diana, which means, “come together”, in Ibibio language, was flagged off on the 30th of may at the ocean terminal jetty Onne, Rivers State by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor.

Addressing newsmen during the flag off, CDS General Irabor said the regional exercise is observed every two years in conjunction with different nationalities but due to Covid-19, that of 2020 was not achieved.

Onboard the Nigerian Naval ship Okpabana warship, Commodore Olusegun Olukunle Soyemi, fleet commander, Eastern fleet, Nigerian Navy Calabar, stressed the importance of the regional exercise

Speaking on behalf of the American coast guard, Michael Fesser, commended the Nigerian navy for  its capabilities as well as the resources it showcased during the maritime exercise.
