The Speaker of the House, Ikuiyi Owaji-Ibani said the bill seeks to stop double taxation in the state.
Ibani added that no ministry, department or agency will collect tax on behalf of the state government when it becomes law.
Earlier, the leader of the house, Martins Amaewhule asserted that section 10 of the bill empowers the Rivers state Internal revenue service to be the sole collector of taxes for the state.
Amaewhule however explained that the board can not grant waivers without the approval of the state house of assembly.
The House also passed the Rivers state audit amendment bill 2021 which seeks to redefine the functions of the Auditor-General of the state.
