In a statement applauding the report by the National Bureau of Statistics, the spokesman for the Senate, Senator ALIYU SABI ABDULLAHI said it was commendable that after five consecutive quarters of contraction, the economy recorded growth in the second quarter of this year.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs emphasized that improved performance of trade, manufacturing, agriculture and oil sectors shows that with carefully aligned policy and legislative interventions, Nigeria’s economy could thrive beyond current forecasts.
He maintained that the rising unemployment in the country was an issue of much concern to the Senate, as well as the rising cost of food prices and basic services that affects millions of households.
