Nigeria must cut cost for its economy to survive Covid-19 says governors forum

Chairman of the Nigeria Governorship Forum Kayode Fayemi said with such a reduction in revenue, Nigerian must reduce the cost of governance.

 

Fayemi who is also the Governor of Ekiti State said apart from the passage of supplementary budgets by the Federal and state governments, there is need to explore various recommendations on streamlining ministries, departments and agencies of government to reduce wastage.

 

He also advised Nigerians to be ready to eliminate or minimise non-core expenses and also ensure that the wage bill at all levels of government is accompanied by accountability, productivity and effectiveness of our workforce.

 

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted life globally, infecting more than three million people and claiming more than two hundred and thirty thousand lives.

 

In Nigeria, there have been over 2388 confirmed cases with 85 deaths amid lockdowns and movement restrictions with the price of oil, which is Nigeria’s biggest source of income been plummeted.
