Nigeria loses over four hundred thousand medical doctors to the United Kingdom in one year

This is according to the President of the Common Wealth Medical Association, Doctor Osahon Enabulele who was speaking at the Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Rivers state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association in Port Harcourt.

Doctor Osahon noted that for the Nigerian health sector to adjust to world standard, over two hundred and fifty thousand additional doctors would be needed in the country.

He also regretted that medical doctors in the country are often castigated and unappreciated and also listed insecurity, poor political will and unemployment as some of the challenges facing the medical profession in Nigeria.

Speaking with newsmen at the sideline of the event, the Chairman, NMA Rivers State, Doctor ChidinduAlikor, said a communique will be presented by NMA to the Federal government, regarding the challenges faced by the medical profession.

Today FM’s Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe reports that the event was attended by  state and local government officials.
