The statistics also makes Nigeria a major transit point for hard drugs and illegal weapons trade between South America and Europe.
It identifies Nigeria’s porous borders as a major factor that paves ways for free flow of arms in and out of the country, and also contributing to increasing number of violent conflicts, as well as human and drug trafficking.
The report further observes that the broken political system, corrupt law enforcement agents and social environment are contributory challenges to many criminal activities.
The twenty-page report published by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre aims at raising policy consciousness on the dreadful impacts of organised crime and enhancing the capacity of relevant authorities to effectively deal with the challenge.
The report entitled ‘Crime-Just: Fact Sheet Nigeria’ was compiled with the support of the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in partnership with INTERPOL and Transparency International.
