NGO Accuses HYPREP of Owing Months of Unpaid Salaries to Workers in Ogoniland

A non-governmental organisation, Community Advancement Initiatives, has accused the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) of failing to pay the salaries of some of its contracted workers for several months.

HYPREP has recently faced renewed criticism following the collapse of two water tanks in Gokana and Eleme Local Government Areas last month, heightening public concern over its project management and accountability.

Speaking with our reporter, the Coordinator of Community Advancement Initiatives, Friday Edoo Nekabari, alleged that workers engaged by HYPREP to manage and maintain various stations across Ogoniland have been left without pay for an extended period. He said many of the affected workers rely on their salaries to support their families and are now experiencing significant hardship.

Nekabari called on HYPREP’s management to urgently address the backlog of salary payments and ensure that all workers are fairly compensated, noting that swift action is necessary to restore public confidence in the agency’s activities in Ogoniland.
