NDLEA Arrests 80-Year-Old Chinese Woman, Others for Drug Trafficking in Nationwide Raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an 80-year-old Chinese woman and several others in a series of coordinated operations targeting drug trafficking syndicates across Nigeria.

The NDLEA made significant seizures of illicit drugs, including codeine-based syrups, tramadol, skunk, methamphetamine, and other controlled substances valued at over ₦3.2 billion. The arrests and seizures were carried out at strategic locations, including Lagos and Port Harcourt ports, as well as in Kaduna and Abia States.

At the Apapa Port in Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted a container loaded with 175,000 bottles of codeine syrup, falsely declared as vehicle spare parts. Similarly, at the Port Harcourt port, the agency seized over three million pills of opioids, including tapentadol and carisoprodol, concealed in vehicle spare parts.

In Kaduna, an 80-year-old female convict, previously jailed for drug trafficking between 2014 and 2024, was re-arrested after being found in possession of 2.3 kilograms of skunk.

Another operation in Abia State led to the arrest of an 82-year-old woman and her 32-year-old daughter, with methamphetamine, tramadol, skunk, and cash recovered from their residence. NDLEA said the elderly woman took over the drug trade after her son’s death.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrests and seizures, stating that the agency remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and cutting off supply chains of illicit substances across the country.
