The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has vowed to pursue all legal means to ensure justice is served over the alleged killing of 22-year-old Anthony Obodo, who was reportedly shot and killed by a police officer at Agip Junction, along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt.
The NBA gave the assurance when its leadership paid a condolence visit to Justice Rita Chituru Oguguo to commiserate with her over the death of her nephew, Anthony Obodo.
The Association said it remained deeply interested in the matter and would be present when the police officers allegedly involved are paraded.
In a statement, the Publicity Secretary of the NBA, Port Harcourt Branch, Ohaka Ihunwo, said the visit underscored the Association’s commitment to its mandate of promoting and upholding the rule of law.
Ihunwo said the NBA would support the bereaved family in ensuring that justice is not only done but is seen to be done.
The statement expressed deep sadness over the incident, which occurred during the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Responding on behalf of the family, the deceased’s father, Christian Obodo, commended the NBA for the visit, describing it as a source of comfort to the family in its period of grief.
He maintained that his son was not a criminal and was in good health, saying Anthony had completed his Computer Science degree at the University of Port Harcourt and was only awaiting his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, posting.
Christian Obodo said the family never imagined that such a tragedy would befall them.
Recounting how he learnt of his son’s death, he said he received a call from his first son informing him about the death of his second son.
He said the NBA’s visit had renewed the family’s hope for justice, describing the Association as a voice for the voiceless.
