The NBA’s position was made known in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, KUNLE EDUN, who was referring to an alleged disobedience of the order of the Federal High Court directing the release on bail of OMOYELE SOWORE by the DSS.
The NBA said since the DSS found it convenient to approach the Federal High Court in ensuring the detention of OMOYELE SOWORE for more than fifty days, it was not acceptable that the agency has since comfortably refused to comply with the order of the same court directing the release of SOWORE.
The body of lawyers condemned the continued detention of SOWERE by the DSS saying it amounts to violation of his constitutional rights to personal liberty and that no one person shall be deprived of his liberty without a valid court order, as provided for in Section thirty five of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In similar vein, about fifty Civil Society Organisations, CSOs including Amnesty International, Media Rights Agenda, All Workers’ Convergence, and Afrika Movement for Freedom and Justice amongst others have called on the United Nations and the African Union to intervene in the Federal Government’s case against SOWORE.
