The telecommunications firm had last year sued MALAMI over a letter in which he demanded that they pay over two hundred and forty billion naira and one point three billion dollars as import duties, withholding and value-added taxes, a move which the firm’s lawyer, WOLE OLANIPEKUN, described as ‘malicious, unreasonable and one made on an incorrect legal basis’.
OLANIPEKUN who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria said the Attorney-General acted beyond his powers and violated the provisions of Section thirty-six of the constitution on fair hearing.
He therefore, urged the court to award three billion naira against MALAMI as general and exemplary damages.
The matter will be heard on January 30, 2020 before trial judge, Justice C.J. ANEKE.
