It is expected that the planned vote by the Catalan parliament will have to wait until the outcome of a review by the court to determine whether the referendum law was in beach of Spain’s constitution.
But in spite the Supreme Court’s decision, Catalan leaders have threatened to go ahead with the vote as planned on the 1st of October.
Prime Minister MARIANO RAJOY is among those who are opposed to the breakaway of Catalans, and he has appealed to the Supreme Court to declare the referendum illegal.
