Reports across Europe say Portuguese coach José Mourinho is now in advanced talks and final negotiations to return to Spanish giants Real Madrid, more than a decade after leaving the club.
According to multiple sources, Real Madrid have identified Mourinho as their top and only major candidate to replace current head coach Álvaro Arbeloa following a turbulent season at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The club is reportedly considering activating his release clause at Benfica, where he currently manages, while discussions are said to be focusing on squad rebuilding plans and transfer control as key conditions for the deal.
However, despite the strong reports, Mourinho has publicly denied any contact with Real Madrid, insisting he remains focused on finishing the season with his current club.
Former players and analysts have also weighed in, with some backing a dramatic return, saying his leadership style could restore stability to the struggling squad.
If completed, the move would mark Mourinho’s second spell at Real Madrid, having previously managed the club between 2010 and 2013.
