The Movement for the Survival of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), Bakana clan, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) over what it described as the company’s failure to fulfill its corporate social responsibility commitments.
In a statement signed by the clan chairman, Blessing Braide, MOSIEND condemned the operations of NNPC 18 in the Cawthon Channel area, describing it as “the worst exploration company” to have operated in the region.
Braide explained that the ultimatum became necessary after the company allegedly failed to honor the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with the host communities.
The group appealed to the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, the National Security Adviser, and the Chief of Defence Staff to intervene in the matter.
Meanwhile, some members of the Bakana clan also expressed displeasure over what they described as neglect and marginalization by NNPC 18 in its operations within the area.
