The US government has confirmed the development, despite SESSIONS’ claim during his confirmation hearing in January that he had had no contacts with the Russians during the campaign.
The Democrats have accused the Attorney General of lying under oath and said he must resign.
They have also asked SESSIONS to step aside from an investigation by the FBI into alleged Russian interference in the US election, which he oversees as Attorney General.
You will recall that President TRUMP’s first National Security Adviser, MICHAEL FLYNN, was sacked last month after he misled the White House about his conversations with the Russian ambassador about sanctions against Moscow, prior to his appointment.
It has also been confirmed that the Attorney General, JEFF SESSIONS met Russian Ambassador SERGEI KISLYAK as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee twice last year.
The Washington Post reports that both men held a private conversation in SESSIONS’s office in September and had spoken earlier in the summer, along with several other ambassadors.
