Minister of Works David Umahi: Nigeria’s South-East Inherited ‘Almost No Projects’ from Past Administrations

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu inherited “almost no projects” in Nigeria’s South-East region upon assuming office. He noted that since then, significant interventions have been initiated to bridge the infrastructure gap in the area.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja on Thursday, where the federal government showcased its two-year scorecard in the works sector under President Tinubu, Umahi emphasized the government’s commitment to infrastructure development across Nigeria, particularly in the South-East.

The minister explained that previous administrations left little to no ongoing projects in the region, which has historically faced infrastructural challenges. However, he assured that the current administration has prioritized development initiatives to change this narrative and improve the socio-economic landscape of the South-East.

Umahi’s remarks underscore the government’s focus on infrastructure as a key driver of national growth and development. The summit provided an overview of progress made in road construction, bridges, and other critical projects aimed at fostering economic activities and connectivity across Nigeria.
