The Defence Headquarters’ Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma has launched a major offensive operation, codenamed Operation Clean Sweep III, targeting terrorists and bandits operating in Matazu Local Government Area and neighbouring communities in Katsina State.
The operation follows the incident that led to the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was reportedly abducted alongside his wife by suspected terrorists and bandits in the area.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of JTF North West Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the operation commenced on June 14, 2026, with the objective of locating and neutralising those responsible for the attack.
He added that troops involved in the operation have also been tasked with dismantling criminal networks and restoring security across the affected communities, reaffirming the commitment of the Armed Forces to protecting lives and combating insecurity in the North West region.
